Re: Nikon Z looks a lot like an E series...
Stan, re: no Ai ring on body: you are right My note was on the notch at 0800 on the front of the FTZ, similar like some (budget) Nikon DSLR bodies. re: an optical illusion You are right, and above that: the FTZ has no optical elements. re: won't be long I admit, I have yet to get some hands-on with ...

Re: Nikon Z looks a lot like an E series...
Stan. My commiserations... I can only advise to read the PDF manual on the Z7, that includes a section on the FTZ adapter. Two things I fail to understand Why have an aperture lever (onliy on the lens side of the adapter) Why have a sensor that checks the smallest aperture is set on the lens. In the...

Re: Copyright Nikon Corporation
Nico, My D1 is something like 13.500 and has the same copyright 1999 line in NEF files. Visible both in ViewNX/2 and Kuso-exif-viewer. Note that the next line (in VNX2) is a line called Image Comment (sometimes called the user copyright notice). Regards, Gilbert PS I checked some .jpg files (being c...

Re: Shutter actuations
Nico,
Please consider that other parts of the camera can wear out too.
E.g. a fresh shutter may not be of any use when the camera has had more actuations than the designed life for the complete camera.
Regards, Gilbert

Re: Nikon D1 error with CPU lens
Stan,
You may be right, if any plug or connection has loosened anything may happen (sad grin).
Regards, Gilbert
PS with a CPU lens (and f-ring on the minimum value) the camera makes the lens stop down regardless of the setting on the camera, resulting in under-exposure.

Nikon D1 error with CPU lens
Since a few days my old D1 shows some strange behaviour. With a CPU lens, I get an Err message (after exposure or DOF check, but NOT when the lens is set to full open) Also: even in manual exposure mode (metering by the camera) the exposure seems to be off (a few stops under-exposure). With a trusty...

Re: Kodak DCS-100 in Italy sold for about 1.700,-EUR
I have some doubts, Look at the similarity of pictures in this ad: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kodak-DCS-100-DCS100-DM3-Nikon-F3-Digital-Camera-System-/261230544387?pt=Digital_Cameras&hash=item3cd28dc603 On the other hand, this unit from the USA may be genuine. The italian ad you mention has termina...

Re: NikonWeb: Free, portable IPTC preset editor (D4 users)
Jarle, You made your version of the software, so controlling it is at your discretion. Mine was just a hint that some users may find useful (and I found lacking also in the originial Nikon version). Regards, Gilbert PS please do not ask me how to implement it (let alone a Mac version, I am a Win-7-6...

Re: NikonWeb: Free, portable IPTC preset editor (D4 users)
Jarle, I am not one of the many (grin) D4 users, but interested in most things Nikon. I have been wondering about the IPTC presets that can be defined in the current Nikon ViewNX/Transfer software. Under the ViewNX/Transfer the defined presets can be exchanged / edited (including ViewNX release 1). ...

Analog Nikon F5 and Photo Secretary software on Win7 system
For anyone who cares (grin) After my switch to a Win7 PC, I tried connecting my F5 (and MF-28) to the new PC, via a MC-33 cable to the COM port on the PC. This connection is supposed to work with Nikon's Photo secretary software, from 1997. The software was designed for Windows-95. This took some se...

Nikon D1 series and MS-Windows 7, anyone
I had to switch my PC to a new one with Windows 7 home premium (64-bits). I have had troubles in the past connecting this D1 to a PC with Win-XP-SP3, and solved that. Is there anyone who has connected a Nikon D1 series camera (with fire-wire connection) to a 64 bits Win7 system ? Note: I could read ...

Re: Nikkor 6mm fisheye sold for £100.000
Jarle, I was amazed by this sale. (grin) I always heard that Gray Levitt was a master at attracting well heeled buyers, buy this is quite something. Considering that the 5.6 version was made in even smaller numbers, what would that fetch? I have seen these go on ebay for USD 1000. For your ease of m...

Nico,
I think this product (better said: developement) was also known under the name SiliconFilm.
It ticked many lovers of classic cameras but I do not believe a working version ever existed.
