Re: Nikon D4 is here
For the professional news shooter a PRO video-camcorder is irreplaceable (yet). Hi Nico. I'm a professional photo journalist for a daily newspaper. Both myself and my colleagues are using DSLRs to shoot video. We also have dedicated video journalists that are using professional video equipment, but...

Re: Rare monochrome DCS760M on eBay
It looks a bit like a hoax, though. The first picture shows a standard DCS 760 - the KODAK PROFESSIONAL nameplate is in colour, which is wrong, because the monochrome model had a monochrome nameplate. In the second picture the nameplate looks to have been badly retouched into black and white. And th...

"Kodak Bankruptcy: Photographers Mourn"
It was inevitable, I suppose, and it's not necessarily terrible news, but Kodak isn't doing too well (again): http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/arts-post/post/kodak-bankruptcy-photographers-mourn/2012/01/05/gIQAxiXjcP_blog.html "According to a Wall Street Journal report, Kodak, the 131-year-o...

Re: Kodak sells Image Sensor Solutions business
Platinum Equity specialise in the "merger, acquisition and operation of companies", which I mentally parse as "murder, execution, and evisceration". I see they have a company called Pomeroy! And US Robotics, who still exist and are still making modems. Bit of a shame for Kodak. T...

Re: Professional Camera Back - DCS 100 predecessor
I think I've found an image of the CCD/board, (I can't remember where though...) http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/precertvideo/DCS-100_4.jpg Notice how all the film-advance sprockets and takeup spool are still in situ in the body! That's how people always pictured how a 35mm "digital bac...

Re: DCS 500/600/700 battery/power info (NikonWeb article)
Incidentally, after having got the camera - with about five batteries - I can confirm that the trick below (from Nikonweb's guide to the camera's batteries) worked for me, too: "And here's yet another variant: "With my 620x nimh batteries, I just stick the totally dead batteries in the cha...

Re: DCS 500/600/700 battery/power info (NikonWeb article)
This method means that if the camera has been shelved for a couple days, then the internal clock is screwed up and I have to set it upon power up. Of course, my lithium back-up battery is long gone on all three of my Kodaks, and even though I could change them out myself, I'm too lazy! it's easier ...

Re: The Nikon F100: Invincible
So, that explains the D1 body cavities filled with electronics that looked like they were for film spools, and the film door shape to the rear opening. They weren't going to pay for anything new they absolutely didn't have to as they were unsure just how well it might sell. As it was, they could ha...

Re: Nikon unveils J1 and V1 mirrorless cameras
There are a few high-ISO night-time samples here, which don't look too bad: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/NIKONJ1/NIKONJ1A7.HTM Interesting to see Nikon reviving the same sensor format as the Kodak DCS 420! In a much smaller body. Nine more megapixels. Shoots at 60fps as well, and can do hig...

The Nikon F100: Invincible
Whilst writing something about the D1, and trying to work out if it used any bits of the F100, I stumbled on this blog post: http://photozopia.blogspot.com/2010/04/nikon-f100-tough-guy-camera-part-2.html A chap bought a broken old F100 for spare parts, from an eBay auction which mentioned that the c...

Re: View all of Kodak's original DCS webpages, from 1994 on
I know that Ashley Pomeroy is a member here, and his blog was very interesting to me in researching the DCS cameras. One of his links takes you to an instance of DCS information in "Wayback Machine", an internet archiver. I was amazed to find that I could use this to explore nearly all of...

Re: Last Shuttle launch captured with Fujifilm X100
Cheerio shuttle. It's a poignant shot - I was very young when Columbia took off, we all were, and I think that like most kids of my generation I had an impulse to phone NASA and ask if they wanted to be the first space agency to put a kid into space. Obviously that's not likely to happen any more. A...

Kodak PreView System
While doing some research for one of my older blog posts about the Canon D2000, I stumbled on some information - thank you Google Books -about the Kodak PreView system, which intrigued me. I haven't read about it before. It was aimed at cinematographers, as a means of judging exposure, and consisted...

Well, it didn't sell at $199, didn't sell at $179, so I assume it's gone in the bin.

Re: Fuji S3
Nice. I had forgotten about that sensor design. When it came out, I wanted one but didn't want to pay the price tag. What, with the constant upgrading and swapping I was doing on two systems (D1, D1h, D1x, 660, 620x on Nikon and 1D, 560, 1Ds on Canon) I put this into the 'buy it used later' categor...
