And lastly here it is in use as a regular camera:

Re: MVC-5000/7000 tip
After many, many hours of testing and fiddling I've come to the following conclusions: The floppy drive system is never 100% reliable, which was also the same when they were used in computers. The 5000 is very sensitive to having good and fully charged batteries. The problem is--which I've also come...

Re: Got a good deal on a DCS-720x!
I made another post this evening about powering these up which has more details. The battery is a QB2 and the cable is a DC3. The NC2000 is harder as it needs to draw power from the internal battery connector. You can plug an external battery into the charging port as long as the internal battery is...

Powering up the old cameras
I thought I'd share my tips/techniques I've found for getting these old cameras powered up again, as original batteries are hard to come by, and what memory cards I've found to work. This covers both Kodaks and Nikons but I included it in the Nikon section as they're more popular: *****These are mod...

Re: Nikon D800 is announced
After looking over the specs I've decided I would have little use for one. Arguably the high ISO would be better but this is really what the D800x should be--the high resolution landscape/portrait camera and not the general use one. In particular the low FPS is a big turn off for me.

Re: Wanted: Memory card for DS-505, aka Nikon E2
Anybody? Bueller? Bueller? Surely all the HG-10 and EC-15 cards haven't disappeared into a black hole, have they? To make it clear why I've been looking so long the later DS-515/DS-565 or E2s/E3 are more compatible with a wider ranger of pcmcia flash cards. I've had and found on Ebay cards that the ...

Re: Got a good deal on a DCS-720x!
Welcome to the club! Batteries are still out there on Ebay, the question is the chargers, and they are the low end Chinese batteries. I've been able to get my 620X going by using an external Quantum battery (QB2) and you could probably do the same. The hard part is coming up with the right cable for...

Re: MVC-5000/7000 tip
Well it looks like that wasn't it. After a brief episode of working okay I'm back to the same problem, which I think it a bad shutter or something with the mirror mechanism. The behavior is about the same as my D50 when it had a bad shutter; a few frames are shot fine, then it's hanging and feeling ...

Re: HDR in photojournalism - or not?
I remember several years ago (1990's) a photographer was fired over an image of a fireman on a crane against a sky that was darkened to look ominous, and then there was the infamous OJ Simpson photo. Part of the reasoning against retouching photos is the old concept that the camera was an objective ...

Haven't heard of that variant, Ron; all I can find about it is this reference in a medical case:

Re: NC2000 Gallery
Well I may have solved the problem, I replaced the N90 body with one from my DCS 420 (to forever sit on a shelf), and the yellow lines and sticking shutter have gone away. I'll have to try it out tomorrow to see how the photos work. Thtupid sundown taking all the light away.....

NC2000 Gallery
Hello: Some photos of and by the NC2000 I got running again: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2882810082376.130475.1623829462&type=1&l=d8c934254b Also need some advice. When I first powered it up I got an "E7" error which went away when I reformatted the card, but then I h...

MVC-5000/7000 tip
Since there's probably all of five of us who still use these this will likely go under the heading of useless information, nevertheless it may come in handy somewhere at some point. You should be able to put in a fresh battery, point it at something bright (fast shutter speed) and crank off 5-6 shot...

Re: "Kodak Bankruptcy: Photographers Mourn"
Sad, but to be honest Kodak hasn't really been marketing cameras for decades. We all know the story about the Nikon/Kodak SLR's and the Pro 14n; but before that Kodak wasn't a a big name in the professional film SLR world. Matter of fact I don't think they had any "serious" SLR's since the...

Re: NikonWeb.com article: Nikon V1 first impressions
I'll admit I'm intrigued with this and some of the other mirrorless wonders, but at $850 just for the body my money is staying put. I don't know if it's the economics of bringing in a new line or the caveat of something new, but all of them are just too expensive. I think it it notable is this proba...
