Who actually produced the E series?

In the latest message in the serial number thread, spreefurt suggested that the rather non-nikonian serial numbering scheme, actually incorporating the year and quarter of manufacture, suggests the cameras were not actually produced by Nikon. Ken Rockwell, on his site, makes some rather nasty commen...

You shoud be able to tell fairly easily when you start using it. If vegetation comes out as a lighter grey than with the 420m, but not near white, then the camera must have no IR cutoff filter but no visible light blocking filter either. If that is so, then If you want the real classic IR effect, yo...

Thought others might be interested in this: I had a look at the dcraw converter by Dave Coffin, http://cybercom.net/~dcoffin/dcraw/ and discovered it did not do DCS200 files. Sent him a sample, and he has already added the ability to decode them to dcraw. The source code is available from his page, ...

I thought I would summarize my experience for the benefit of anyone else who is trying to get a DCS200 to communicate with a Windows machine. Brian kindly emailed the drivers to me. I would be willing to forward them on to others if needed. I installed them on a Windows 98 machine, where they work f...

Hi, In my experience the thing to do is try as many combinations of cards and adapters as possible. CF to PCMCIA card adapters vary in their acceptability to DCS cameras too. I have 2 PCMCIA adapters and a dozen or so CF cards of various sizes and brands. One of the PCMCIA adapters is a Kodak one, w...

OK; I now have at least 2 working DCS200 backs, one I bought with a camera, one I bought as part of a batch of 3 backs for $US 12. I have not tested the other 2 in that batch yet. One is missing the battery holder. They turn on, you can take photos and hear them being written to the hard disk, and t...

Well, it's been relisted as a "Make an Offer" listing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0052419032

It is missing the door for the ISO etc settings, the rubber cover for the video out port etc.

Might be worth an offer, if you don't have one already.

Cheers,
Ross

Found another serial number on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110048905465&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1 It is definitely an E2N, serial number 7100030 Starting bid $299 with charger and no other accessories, and in well-used condition. It will be interesting to see if i...

I now have my eBay (US) E3s. It is in almost mint condition, and works. Hooray! Serial number 8200046, the first E3s on the list in that batch I think.

Cheers,
Ross

Yes, it's me. I emailed him asking if he was certain it was a CIR model, and if so, how, and pointing out that the CIR and normal models are different. It was obviously a genuine error on his part, and he sent me a very nice email as well as putting that link in the listing.

Cheers,

I'm not spending that much time on eBay, it was pure good luck. I do, now and then when I have 5 minutes to spare, run a search for camera, buy it now, with most recently listed coming up first, and scan the first few pages. This is on the theory that people probably sometimes list interesting thing...

This same camera was repeatedly listed at very high starting prices earlier in the year, and attracted no bids. I was all set to snipe bid it but it went over my maximum. I now have an E2N, an E3, and an E3S, need an E2, E2s and E2Ns to complete the set. The E3S and E2N are in transit and I will rep...

Amazing price, for sure. I am going to keep that one on my watch list for a while and see if the winner ends up being a nonpayer. Another one has been listed with DCS 460 CIR in the title, and a description, clearly copied from the web somewhere, of a 460 CIR, but the camera in the photos has a labe...

For people in the USA this is clearly an idea worth following up. Just out of curiousity (since I am usually not in the USA) I had a look for government liquidation sales using google, found several, and in less than 1/2 hour of time wasting found this: http://cgi.govliquidation.com/auction/view?id=...

Hi, Jarle It would certainly be worth trying with a 20/3.5. It seems to be somewhat unpredictable exactly how well it will work; I have tried with a number of lenses and so far the 20/2.8 is best in terms of focuses almost to infinity and the image circle is big but still entirely within the frame. ...
