Re: Nikon E2s and E3s

Very good luck there, getting 2 with boxes and cards etc. Just curious--does anyone know if the neckstraps for these are unique? I wasn't paying much attention to Nikon AF cameras in the 1990s, so I don't know. They certainly look different from the 2000s design and from earlier designs that came wi...

Sony MVC-5000 Still Video Camera manual pdf available

Hi all, I've just scanned in and made a pdf of the manual for the Sony MVC-5000 still video camera. I also have a manual for the MVR-5300 player/recorder, and if anyone is interested I could scan that as well. Please send me a message with an email address if you'd like a copy of either one. Cheers,...

Re: DCS-200 Monochrome on eBay

I have four DCS200 backs, all of which worked when I bought them but none of which I could get to work the last time I tried, don't know why, maybe ageing components/joints, and I didn't try very hard. They're all color models, and three of the four had remaining images on the hard drives that looke...

Re: Casio VS-101

I really wanted a Canon Xapshot when those were being marketed (ca 1990?). I couldn't think of any excuse to buy it, though, so I didn't. I have one now, of course, along with a Sony Mavica 5000. I've taken photos with the Xapshot, and they are as good as you could expect from NTSC video (not very)....

Re: RD-175 drivers-where to get them now?

I have a number of Windows files that I downloaded. There is an RD175SETUP.EXE, RD175WDM.SYS and RD175WDM.INF, as well as a pdf of the manual for the camera. I also have RD17520E.exe which I believe is a self-extracting zip archive containing those files. I would be happy to upload the files or the ...

Extreme optimist listing of DS505 on eBay

I think the seller must not have bothered to do any research. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300542720967 No battery, untested, pretty well used. S/N looks like 5300012, not a particularly interesting one (5100001 would be nice but still not worth the price, at least to me). ...

E series -- very first purpose-built DSLRs?

This just occurred to me yesterday, and I don't know for certain that it's correct, maybe I'm missing something. It seems to me that the Nikon/Fujix E series, specifically I guess the E2, but in a sense the whole series, were really the absolute first DSLRs that were designed from the ground up to b...

Really nice DCS full outfit on eBay

This is pretty spectacular, unfortunately the seller seems to have a pretty good idea of what it's worth, maybe even over the top. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160537917419 Even so I felt sorely tempted for a little while. Then I thought about the fact that it would probabl...

Re: E2N for sell on EBAY sn:7300088

Sold for $575. Note that it had box, neck strap still in plastic, looked near-mint. Those boxes must be pretty rare. I'm glad I didn't see this until it was over; I would have been tempted.

Re: ebay - FUJIX DS-515,#5300001

Sold for $715.51. A nice example (I suspect) of how laying a listing out nicely with lots of photos and knowing the history and significance of what you're selling can make a huge difference--it would have been easy to sell the same camera for $125, with a more typical eBay listing. Nice to see pric...

Re: IMAGEK (Digital Film)

I agree with Stan that it'd be very hard to go back to being unable to look at images right after taking them. On the other hand, I'm not sure a new camera back would really be necessary. A stick-on unit with an LCD panel and a few buttons could be made, and communicate with the digital unit inside ...

Re: Minolta RD-175 on eBay

.. compared to old Kodaks, for instance, where Adobe Camera Raw works _much_ better than Photodesk .. It does? For some reason, I've been under the impression that PhotoDesk will produce the best results. I've usually converted my Kodak files to standard TIFF files using PhotoDesk before processing...

Re: Think photo gear is expensive? Read this.

The web site articles are hysterical. A great example of why scientific research is done using "blinding" when observer bias might be important--they keep saying things along the lines of "the measurements could not reveal a difference, but X sounded vastly better than Y". Right....

Re: Minolta RD-175 on eBay

Well, I managed to get it up and running. Thanks, Jarle, for the pointer to the software; it would definitely have been impossible without that (and my pack-rat tendencies, so I have a Win 98 machine with SCSI board that still runs, and a fairly amazing set of SCSI cables with various connectors and...
