What determines collectability?

Hi, This is new to me, even though I have been on this board from the very beginning. Collecting, that is. I have always been into the technical side of it all, not the collecting side. But, that seems to be changing. As I went looking for a DSLR for my wife, and not wanting to spend a lot until I s...

Re: Two DCS100s on eBay

Hi,

And, now that ya got me looking, this morning I see a new listing for a 760M....which has a 'freezing up' issue. For the modest sum of $1399 you can have a 'fix-it' project. If that '1' weren't there, I might try a fix-it without a roadmap. As it is, no.

Re: Two DCS100s on eBay

Hi, I couldn't readily find the $3500 one. Because....it is listed as a Nikon DCS-100, not a Kodak. The $1995 one is from someone I recall seeing one listed by long ago. Neither have DSU's. Whilst looking for 'Kodak DCS', I also see where there is a 760M listed for $2799. Hmmm. I have always wanted ...

Re: Nikon Df

Hi,

I hope you will tell me how you like (or not) the images made by your D4. That, after all, is what is most important.

Re: I Shall Return

Hi, Yup. Got all those. All quite good. The physically smaller ones look lost on the 760, though. ;) They would be a much better fit on a Df. Heck, they are a much better fit on the D1H! :P My wife with her D80 has the 'bug' now. Wanted to try some of my lenses. I had to tell her: 'Nope, don't work ...

Nikon Df

Hi, The Df is probably too new to be considered collectible, but I wonder if any of the gang here shoot with one? It seems to be to be *the* DSLR for me. I have a nice set of AI'd, AI and AIS lenses left over from a series of Nikon film cameras (F2, FE, FA). They work fine on my F5 based Kodak 7xx D...

Re: I Shall Return

Hi, Well, Li-Ion in this case. They don't really have a Rhyme or Reason to them. Some last a long while. Some not so long. Deep cycling them shortens their life. Maybe that happened. Camera use would tend to run one down until the camera quit. One pack was Nikon branded, so I bet it came with the ca...

Re: I Shall Return

Hi, I ran a few test shots on the D80 and it looks pretty good. We have a heron that was born on our pond a couple years ago and he is frequently here. So, he showed up and let me shoot him with the 70-300mm second lens I bought to go with the D80. I did wind up taking the two batteries into my elec...

Re: I Shall Return

Hi, You mean the Sony CCD? The D1 and the D1H used it with four photosites per pixel for 2.7MP. The D1X used it with two photosites per pixel for 5.3 MP. This also meant that the D1X had rectangular pixels rather than square. The D200 and the D80 used it with one photosite per pixel for 10.2 MP. The...

Re: I Shall Return

Hi, Well, it arrived and seems to work OK. Just not for long. Sad Battery Syndrome. So, some new battery packs are on order. We didn't get enough shooting to tell much, just enough to evaluate the camera operation. Also, enough to know she likes it (whew). And....that she already wants a second, lon...

Re: D2 battery code

Hi, With the way Li-Ion batts like to go -poof-, I am surprised they don't use the little clocks to code it down to the hour..... Some makers use Monday to start the week, some Sunday, hence the unknown there. Most makers run seven days a week, and usually two or three shifts a day. Nikon isn't maki...

Re: D2 battery code

Hi, Hmmmm. I will hazard a guess based on many other things which use date codes. The M would indicate the year, the 48 the week of the year, and the B the day of the week. The 48 is easy, the B would be Monday or Tuesday (depending on which day they use to begin their week). It is the M that I have...

Re: I Shall Return

Hi, I don't think they are related sensors. There was a lot of jumping about back then. Different in each camera there for a while. In fact, it was a surprise when Nikon went back to the Sony CCD when it happened. By then, most had switched away from CCD to CMOS. I knew of the photosite vs pixel lay...
