Sinar DCS-465
Sinar DCS-465
Hi,
I've just received a rare sinar-DCS 465. It it a dcs465 back mounted on a sinar body which has an incorporated shutter and olympus mount.
It has a 6" colour LCD live orientable screen, you see what you will shoot, and it has different meterings which appear on the screen.
It is quite big and heavy, just like a sinar, great for studio shooting. I want to use it for macros.
I use a macintosh with OSX, but I also have a macintosh with OS9 if needed as it has the scsi incorporated.
The camera takes pics which are around 6Mo on an ibm microdrive. When I want to open them in photoshop it only opens the small b/w TIFF file.
With my 460c and 460m I can open the files through adobe camera raw.
With the dcs465 they don't open.
What ca I do?
Thanks a lot
alex

Congratulations. Sounds like a nice camera to play with.Wolfi wrote:I've just received a rare sinar-DCS 465. It it a dcs465 back mounted on a sinar body which has an incorporated shutter and olympus mount.
Get Kodak PhotoDesk for free from Kodak's web site. That should do the trick.

Strange. If you send me a sample file I'd be happy to take a look at it.Wolfi wrote:Photo desk does not open them either.
You can use the free file transfer service at http://www.yousendit.com/ to do so. Just enter webmaster @ nikonweb . com (without the spaces) in the recipient field.

hi Jarle,
I've sent you the file. Photoshop CS2 with adobe camera raw or kopdak photo desk do not open it. I am on mac OSX.
then I plugged the camera on a macintosh G3 laptop with scsi and OS9.
I installed the driver and calibration file in the photoshop plugin in photoshop 3.0.
The image opens, I can acquire it.
Then I installed photoshop 6.0 and I installed the cal file and driver. It also opens.
the pics lack contrast and saturation, but the camera controls are somehow difficult to understand on the 6" screen behind the camera back, I also use a manual OM lense.
All the best

I've downloaded the file, but no luck so far. I've tried both Kodak Photodesk (under Win XP) and the Kodak SDK - didn't work. I've also tried a few other programs. I'll take a closer look later and let you know if I find anything.Wolfi wrote:I've sent you the file. Photoshop CS2 with adobe camera raw or kopdak photo desk do not open it.

Re: Sinar DCS-465
I asked for assistance from the developer of a commercial image processing library. Here's his reply:
"The image specifies a calibration file named "465-3062.cal". If the
Kodak DLLs can't find this file they throw an error when you ask them to
process it.
I found another .cal file from the 465. If I rename it to above the
image opens properly. The colors are probably way off, though."
Sounds like the back's serial number (?) is embedded in the image file, requiring the .cal file to be named accordingly.
Hope this helps.

Is the .cal file named 465-3062.cal (if not, just rename it) and placed in the correct folder?Wolfi wrote:Seems that there's some hope, but can I do? I don't understand much about computers

Having done this, you should be able to open the file using Kodak Photodesk, or some other compatible software. If you send me the .cal file I can try this on my system.

Hi Nico,
Thanks for your help. I think that the problem resides in the fact that there's something missing in the file.
I have 2 kodak DCS460, mono and color. Their files open in adobe photoshop CS2 camera raw and kodak photodesk.
The files of my "new" Sinar DCS465 do not open in photoshop CS2 and camera raw.
But I can open the files of the sinar DCS465 in photoshop 3 and photoshop 6 since I have placed the .cal file in the import/export module of photoshop.
Jarle, I've sent you the DCS465-3062.cal file at your address. There should be a way to "embed" this file into the images, so adobe camera raw can find it.
All the best
