Another NASA F4 ESC sold on eBay

Post by NikonWeb »

In September 2005, a NASA customized Nikon F4 ESC (Electronic Still Camera) was sold on eBay for $2046:

Yesterday, another one was sold for $1469:

Same seller.

A LITTLE LESS THIS TIME

Post by NIKON KIU »

Two interesting points:
1) lot of familiar names bid on this one,NHS members, resellers...
2) this one didn't do the $2046 price, it did about $600 less.

What Pis@% me off about this camera is that it has no NASA engraving just some lousy stickers
Its kinda crazy paying $1500 when a regular F4 can be had for 1/5 of the price of this one....or is it? :P

It's crazy buying a useless camera, regardless of price :)

If I remember correctly, the previous one would have sold for about the same price, if I had not placed a last minute bid myself.

I'd like to get one of these, but without the digitial back it's really just a modified, useless F4 body. I didn't bid this time.

Thanks, but no thanks.

I'd obviously be interested if it was a complete unit, including the digital back, or a flown camera. As is, it's just a useless piece of metal. Would be cool to have one, but not at that price.

..and yet another one

Post by NikonWeb »

This time for $810. Item number 200040457008.

Interesting to see the prices drop:

1st camera: $2046
2nd camera: $1469
3rd camera: $810

I'm very glad that I didn't pay $2000 the first time the camera was offered. According to the seller, he bought 11 such bodies directly from NASA. If prices continue to drop $600 each time, the next one should sell for around $200..

Hi,

Well, then, wait for the one *after* the next one and he'll pay you to take the silly thing! ;)

Me, I'm waiting for Number 11. He should give me enough money to take it off his hands, that I can go out and buy myself a new (used) bulldozer! :P

A bargain??
$810 for a non working camera...todays collectors like to have working cameras. I would say its more in line of regular F4 prices now.
Even at $500 I would be hesitant to buy one. :? It WILL sit on a shelf forever

I noticed the same thing. For those that haven't seen it, the article concentrated mostly on the physical changes done to the F4 body. It didn't really say anything about the camera's history/intended use.

In other news, another ESC body was just sold on eBay (no. 5, was it?) for $540. Down another $55 since the previous one.
