Searching for some other information, I came across this one.

"DSC-95EC-0001 - STS-70 Launch - Nikon E-2 Digital Image

This test image was taken with a Nikon E-2 Digital Imaging System camera and are provided courtesy of Nikon"

The photo published on NASAs web site is a distorted 900x900 pixel version, but I found the original 1280x1000 pixel file here: http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/shuttle/mis ... C00001.jpg - including EXIF info and all:

The caption doesn't say so, but I assume the photo was taken by Scott Andrews, which used to work for Nikon Professional Services and covered numerous Shuttle launches and other NASA missions. A few years ago, Scott kindly agreed to assist me setting up a remote camera for another Shuttle launch, but unfortunately the mission was delayed and I didn't get a chance to go. See this blog post for more info on Scott, which left Nikon to work for Canon.
