Looks like while Nikon insists it has discontinued the Nikon View software which can be used to open TIFF files from the E2, these Nikon hosted links for it still work:

You could download these and see if you can open your E2 TIFF files with them.
For me, it installs and works mostly OK on Mac OS X 10.6 (the Nikon editor doesn't open-so I set it to open photos in Photoshop Elements) and OK on Windows 7 for me and can co-exist with the newer ViewNX.
