Nikon E-series production numbers

Post by NikonWeb »

With assistance from Uli Koch (member of the Nikon Historical Society and author of the 'Nikon F Trilogy') I've been able to forward some questions to former Nikon engineer Kenji Toyoda, the manager in charge of the QV-1000C (and the same team that later developed the E2).

Most of my questions were directly related to the QV-1000C, but I also asked how many E2 and E3 cameras were made. Mr. Toyoda's reply:

'I don't know for sure. Maybe 2000 to 3000 units.'

I guess that's probably the most accurate number we'll ever get.

(I'd expect Fujifilm to have made approximately the same number of units, but that's purely speculation on my part.)

I bet it includes the fujix units also. although we are talking about two different brands, It doesn't make sense to think that these identical cameras came out of different factories. Being a joint venture one would assume that they were built in the same assembly line.
