Serial number of recent Fuji DSLR: The Fuji IS Pro

Post by Anssi Krooks » Mon Nov 03, 2008 10:26 pm

Hi,

I have currently pleasure to use Fuji IS Pro as my work camera. For future reference "my" IS's serial number is 73S00337. So looks like Fuji has kept same serial number system from Fujix-series.

It's a low volume model, but I'm still surprised to see there's so little IS Pro info online. I can't even find anything on Fujifilm's own web site. According to dpreview.com this model was announced on July 13, 2007. Here's a brief overview:

"Fujifilm today announced the launch of the IS Pro - its third camera designed to record non-visible light and aimed at the law enforcement, scientific, medical and fine art communities. The camera - we assume it to be based on the S5 Pro - has a modified CCD filter pack and is sensitive to Ultraviolet and Infrared light between 380nm and 1000nm. Fujifilm are offering the IS Pro in four kits ranging from $2599 for the body only to $4999 with a Zeiss 50mm Macro 1:2 F2.0 Lens, suitable filters, HyperUtility processing software and even protective armour for the camera body."

Anssi - it would be interesting to see some photos taken with this particular model, and a few photos of the camera itself.

Hi,

List price of the IS Pro is 2500 euros (inc taxes) in Finland which is not that bad when compared to original list price of S5 (~2000 euros), but today the street price of S5 is about 700 euros so the IS is quite expensive in that respect. Not a camera for everyone.

Externally only difference between S5 and IS is glued-on red IS Pro -badge:

Internally the AA/IR-cut-filter over the sensor is different and specified response is 380-1000 nm (The S3 Pro UVIR had specified response down to 350 nm so it could be better camera for UV use). And it also has different firmware than S5. Overall the differences are so small that financially it would maybe be better idea to convert normal S5 for the job, but as the IS is currently the only "out of the box"-UV-IR-DSLR it has a limited market. Fuji told me that "my" IS was third one sold in Finland.

Some IR pictures taken with the IS can be found here:
