1967 Casio AL-1000 programmable calculator.

To be honest, after looking at this page, http://www.vintagecalculators.com/html/casio_al-1000.html, I am tempted........

A £5000 calculator!? That's insane. Get a modern £5000 camera instead :-)

Hi,

I don't know....

The gentle glow of neon from the Nixie Tubes.....

The soft buzzing of the Ferrite Cores as it calculates.....

This is electronics from the Golden Age, when you could tell if something was functioning properly just by looking and listening.....

Ah, it's time to dig out the old tube ham rigs once again. I love the glow of the tubes, and the scent of ancient dust when it gets hot. Plus, the flashes of light from the mercury-vapor rectifiers means I don't need to listen to the Morse code I'm sending, I can just watch the flashes of light for each press of the straight key! :)

All the modern, solid state stuff is just plain lacking character - it's all way too danged sterile! :P

later!

Stan
