I'll admit I'm intrigued with this and some of the other mirrorless wonders, but at $850 just for the body my money is staying put. I don't know if it's the economics of bringing in a new line or the caveat of something new, but all of them are just too expensive. I think it it notable is this probably Nikon's first all new lens mount since the original "F".

The Pentax Q is almost the same deal but even more smaller. It really seems just like the Digital Elph I carry in my pocket but with a lens mount. Again, it'd be interesting to play with but I paid something like $180 for the Elph, the Q is several times as much. At half the price any of these would sell like hotcakes.

Actually, Nikon made a brand new QV mount for the QV-1000C (1988). They also had some IX lenses for their APS-sized Pronea cameras, but I'm not sure if it's physically different from the F mount.

I completely agree that the camera is too expensive for what it is. Will be interesting to see what they'll do with the next generation 1 series cameras (if nothing else - what will they call them?)

Hi friends, I agree that both cameras are way too expensive, given the present prices of their competitors. If Nikon wants to please Nikon users or newcomers, they should do something with the price. A pity is the crop factor, too.
Concerning lens mounts Nikon had the S-mount for its rangefinder cameras and reflex boxes, the F-mount for the film and digital reflex cameras AND the APS cameras! The F- and APS-mounts are identical, just some IX-lenses can't be mounted on regular F-cameras, because of the rear lens construction. The mirror of the two APS reflex cameras would be damaged.
Then there is the QV-mount (mentioned by Jarle), the CX-mount (Nikon 1-series) and we have the two Nikonos lens mounts (Nikonos RF and RS).
Nikon also made lenses to fit various movie and TV-cameras with their respective mounts. And some lenses for microscope cameras (thread and bayonet mounts). See my site www.nicovandijk.net at the respective chapters.
Regards,
Nico
