I've had good luck on my Nikon E3 with just about anything I put in it.

I'm currently using a Sandisk 110MByte card.

I also use a CF to PCMCIA adapter with simpletech 256MByte cards, 128MByte PNY cards, etc. Anything that I've use in the D1 works.

I only press the two format buttons. Halfway depress the release to wake the unit up, let that go, then press the format buttons.

If that is not working, sounds like a problem. I can also format a CF card in the D1 and use it in the E3. Each sets up a different subdirectory.

Post back. You might also try formatting the card in a DOS/Windows machine that does FAT16.

Hi,

I've found that the E2 is far pickier than the E3. I only have two cards that will work in my E2 and DS-515, both are original 'Hi-Speed ATA' labelled. The DS-565 will work with many other cards, including smaller CF cards in adapters.

Of course, it's possible that your camera has a bad card socket, in which case nothing would work. Your only hope is to put in a known-good card and see (or get a known-good camera and go thru your pile of cards).

Like Stan mentioned, it could be a camera issue. In that case, you're probably out of luck.

Would be a lot easier to diagnose the problem if you could try your cards with another unit.

Jim,

Where are you located? Are you in the US? You could pack up your cards and send them to me for testing, if you wish. I have three of these things, one of which I don't mind risking in the event a card might be damaged and then damage the camera in turn (not that I think this a likely occurance).

In case you weren't following, I had one without a shutter button/power switch and Kiu had one with said switch but a busted main control dial, so I bought his and scarfed the switch to fix mine. I can always rig the 'parts doner' to power up and fire though, which makes it a perfect card tester. :)

It'd only be worthwhile if you're in the US, though, as international shipping would wind up being too costly for troubleshooting these old things.
