(Almost) brand new Nikon D1 in box

I had a D1 that was stolen a few years back. When I recently came across this almost like new in box for a fair price, I simply had to get it. Play time! https://photos.smugmug.com/Public/NikonWebcom/i-V896cZR/0/ed45da75/X5/nikon-d1-X5.jpg The revolutionary Nikon D1 was announced on June 15, 1999. F...

Re: 460c cal file?

The .cal files are probably forever lost. See my reply in the "Smudge on DCS760c raws" thread: viewtopic.php?t=883

Re: Smudge on DCS760c raws

Recalibrating the camera and running with the CCD disconnected sound like tasks that require access to service documentation and tools that I don't have. Any idea where to get DCS service manuals? I've made a few requests regarding .cal files and repair manuals. Jim McGarvey don't have any: "R...

Re: Kodak and Nikon joint DSLR venture

It's actually quite heroic what Kodak did, they knew how risky was going digital and how Nikon and Canon had the muscle to crush them. Canon, perhaps, but not Nikon. Not on paper, anyway. Kodak's revenues peaked at nearly 16 billion USD in 1996 and its profits at 2.5 billion USD in 1999. Until the ...

Re: Kodak and Nikon joint DSLR venture

Yes, I've recently been in touch with him. Interesting, indeed. Nikon effectively killed Kodak's digital camera system with the introduction of the D1. One can only speculate what would have happened if the two companies joined forces. For Nikon, it was probably a good thing they didn't, but we'll n...

Kodak and Nikon joint DSLR venture

The original DCS 100 article has been updated with some interesting new info from James McGarvey. It's added to the Q&A: Q: I believe the lack of a professional camera system was a serious problem for Kodak. The two major players at the time, Canon and Nikon, had a huge market share and didn't w...

Re: Smudge on DCS760c raws

Could it simply be a fingerprint on the sensor? If you only see it when pushing 3.5 + stops I personally wouldn't worry about it. Google drive images inline seems to be an issue. I'll see if I can find a solution. Best thing would be to upload photos directly to the forum (currently not possible), b...

Re: Nikon E3(s) / Fujix DS-56x Owner's Manual

Here's the manual for the Nikon E2/E2s which, for all practical purposes, should be more or less the same:

Re: 460c cal file?

I don't think the individual cal files were available for public download - you had to request them from Kodak support. You should be able to open DCS 460 files without the calibration file, but if you want to experiment you can download a sample file here (see last reply from precertvideo - the lin...

Youtube video: Kodak NC2000

Why haven't I seen this before? Interesting video from 2016, featuring Chris Niccolls (later known from dpreview) and Rob Galbraith: We continue our Unsung Cameras Of Yesteryear series with a look at the first large sensor digital camera designed for photojournalism, the Kodak NC2000. See how far DS...

DCS 100 focusing screen on eBay

In case someone needs one: a rare DCS 100 focusing screen is for sale on eBay right now. Very expensive, but if you're desperate... GBP 149 (approx. 170 Euro or 186 USD) from the UK. https://www.ebay.com/itm/334752479920?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Wme0Nm0qTPi&sssr...

Re: Photographs from Early "Filmless" Cameras

No such repository that I know of. You'll find some sample photos from the QV-1000C in the article at https://www.nikonweb.com/qv1000c/ but few people used these early still video cameras, and even fewer would publish the photos online. Remember, the first still video cameras were introduced and sol...

I'm still here as well! In fact, I've just added a few new users, after dpreview announced their closing.
