Re: DCS 500/600/700 battery/power info (NikonWeb article)
Very handy. I'll reiterate that the pack I bought from Bestbatt seemed to be new, and worked fine, at least in a Canon D2000. The mention of recelling packs intrigues me. The DCS 460 I bought recently has three home-made battery packs. They're made out of standard AA rechargeables, arranged in a two...

Kodak DCS 420 GPS
I noticed something odd about this eBay auction for a Kodak DCS 420: http://tinyurl.com/r2y9k5 The back of the camera has a sticker that reads "IF with PLGR GPS". A shufty on Google reveals that the PLGR ("Precision Lightweight GPS Receiver") was a military model made by Rockwell...

Period Kodak DCS brochures: "Trust in The Leaders"
Whilst doing some research for a lengthy blog post about the DCS 460, I stumbled upon this: http://www.promarketinc.com/pdf/ (after doing a Google search for "kodak dcs 420 high resolution" - I was trying to place the camera in its historical context. The DCS 200 is even described as "...

Re: Kodak DCS 760m on eBay -- $9000!
On a tangent, there's something I have always wondered about these old monochrome models - given that they don't have a Bayer filter matrix, is the resolution noticeably higher than the colour models? I suspect that, if you used the three-shot exposure method with coloured filters, and compensated f...

Re: Kodak DCS 460 (which lens?)
Well, since then I've (a) got hold of a 50mm f/2.0 and (b) an old Powerbook 3400, which has a SCSI port and (c) the appropriate cable. I now have the kind of setup that a studio photographer might have had in 1996; it would have cost something like $40,000 back then for all of this, and I feel a str...

Re: Kodak DCS 460 (which lens?)
That should come in handy. I was on the verge of buying one of those 28-100mm G-type plastic zooms, but thanks to this and also Thom Hogan's page on the 460 I decided against it. Instead I have ordered a 50mm f/2 and a lensless M42 adapter for close-up work. The DCS 460 has arrived. It's lighter tha...

Kodak DCS 460 (which lens?)
Hi there chaps; I'm the person a few threads down who bought and sold a Canon D2000. I've since - about five minutes ago - won an auction for a Kodak DCS 460! Whoo. I've always wanted one of the older, odder Kodak SLRs, but I was wary of spending money on something I would barely use. With a six meg...

Re: Looking for a Kodak Dcs 720x
The most critical problem of the Kodaks are the batteries. It seems that there has been no supply of new batteries for many years. And sometimes the batteries are killed by the camera, if they are left within the camera after use. There is no hope to find batteries with badly used or broken cameras...

Re: OT: Canon D2000
"Is that Salisbury Cathedral?" That it be. I've since sold the D2000; it was fast and responsive, but really too big to carry around casually. One thing I noticed was that it seemed to deal with highlight clipping really well - I could bring back lots of detail that looked to be lost in th...

OT: Canon D2000
Ages ago I wrote a short article on my blog about the older Kodak DCS cameras, but I felt a bit guilty because I hadn't actually used one; I was summarising research rather than writing from direct experience. I've since managed to get hold of a Canon D2000 (from Australia!). There aren't many Kodak...

I wondered if perhaps they were used en masse, as part of a large array of cameras - I was thinking of Eadweard Muybridge's method of photographing a horse in motion, by setting up a row of cameras and firing them one after the other. Perhaps they were triggered by computer, and used to photograph o...

There's still a few left. I'd be genuinely curious to know what they're like, and if they have a history - they look as if they came from one place, and they must have cost a bomb en masse back when they were new. It would be interesting to know if the serial number stickers tally with the camera's ...

That chap is a lady!! Kiu Well, it's hard to tell nowadays - with the long hair and the jeans, these youngsters start to look alike. One thing I notice is that several of the DCS 420s have an uncoloured KODAK legend on the digital module. I suppose the white paint might have rubbed off. Most of the...

A job lot of DCS 420 / 410s
Hi there chaps; I've been lurking for a while. I'm curious about these old Kodak DCS cameras, and I often look on eBay for the imaginary £50 DCS 460 with all the accessories in working order etc, or the DCS 560 that someone is throwing away, although I suspect I will have a very long wait. I recentl...
