Re: DCS-200 parts advice

"E" I'm just guessing madly, but I know the later DCS-400s had to have a little pin stuck just above the film transport rails in order to get the frame counter to work properly - assuming the DCS-200 was the same, perhaps it has fallen out, and the camera thinks it has no more "film&q...

Re: eBay end of year DCS sale?

"The replacement or substitution race is accelerating every year. Some historical items may remain valuable, but who knows which one?" I've been pondering this too. Most digital SLRs of the last ten years have been much of a muchness - the DCS cameras have a lot of quirks that make them in...

Re: What is the best flash unit to use with a 560?

In fact, Kodak still have the manual: http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/professional/products/ekn017494.jhtml?pq-path=14010 "EX-series Speedlites, such as the 380EX and 220EX, share several common features such as E-TTL, FE Lock, and FP Flash modes. These modes provide the best overall per...

Re: What is the best flash unit to use with a 560?

I used to have the DCS 560 manual, and if I recall correctly it endorsed the fairly basic 380EX. It mentioned that older EZ film-era flashes would work, but not very well because the CCD had different reflective properties to 35mm film. I tried an old 300TL, which in theory should have worked in TTL...

Re: eBay, you do amuse me

That bent part is the Aperture Index. That part of the lens pushes against a tab on a ring on the camera body. Its purpose is to tell the meter in the camera what aperture the lens is set at. I did not know that. I have a few Nikon lenses that I use quite often with Canon bodies, and that part, the...

eBay, you do amuse me (ugly 35mm f/2.8 lens)

Apropos of nothing, I was struck by this auction, for an old 35mm f/2.8 (described as an f/2.5 in the title): http://preview.tinyurl.com/2db4cpw "Good condition - Working Order - mechnically and optically sound. There are some light surface / cosmectic marks on the outer lens body / black coati...

Re: Casanova Foto, Barcelona

Sounds like a fun shop :-) The MP Hermes edition is a bargain compared to the £19,800 Leica M9 Titanium: http://www.dpreview.com/news/1009/10092116leicam9titanium.asp Jarle At least they made a few changes, anyway, instead of just making the top out of titanium. Leica's special editions always remi...

Casanova Foto, Barcelona

I was on holiday in Barcelona last week, and I popped into Casanova Foto, which is a photo store just off the Placa Catalunya (the town centre). It's the only place I've seen modern Zeiss 35mm lenses for sale, and I had a good look at the 21mm f/2.8, which didn't have a price tag because that's the ...

DCS 420 Photo Booth

There's an odd auction on eBay.co.uk at the moment: http://tinyurl.com/28xh38o It has some snarky and amusing text, and is described as "all you need to take pictures of people and then print them out on actual paper, in NEAR REAL TIME". "This cost aproximately 178 Bazzillion Pounds w...

Re: Nikon F3 Hawkeye

I didn't realise the door just opened out like that - I always assumed the DCS back was attached like the later DCS 200 / 400, as part of a separate battery pack screwed into the tripod thread. I wonder if they ever thought of selling the back door and the processor unit separately as an "upgra...

Re: Kodak nc2000e gallery on Flickr

Here's a post I just completed comparing three cameras looking at the same scene. http://snapolson.blogspot.com/2010/07/rbs-building-comparison.html The article I've posted compares an image from the nc2000e, a Kodak DCS-330, and a Fuji 6800z (point-and-shoot): That's a good advert for the DCS 330....

Re: Kodak DCS 560 plays pong

When we did the 620, I wanted a different game that would work with the 4 way rocker instead of the 520's dial, so I had Tetris coded and working before I found out that the owners are very strict about licensing. I put in the image tile puzzle instead. Very disappointing... The camera accepts firm...

It puts me in mind of the old Gene Hackman / Francis Ford Coppola movie, "The Conversation": http://www.subtraction.com/2009/08/13/conversation-pieces E.g.: http://subtraction.pmhclients.com/images/uploads/2009-08-13-conversation-05.jpg http://subtraction.pmhclients.com/images/uploads/2009...

Re: Cheap D1x battery solution

In this case the person selling the camera doesn't have a Nikon charger - 18650 battery chargers sell for about $12 or so on Amazon.com, whereas Nikon MH-16s seem to sell for about $99.

Cheap D1x battery solution

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but there's an auction on eBay.co.uk for a D1x with a modified battery pack, that now takes a pair of 18650 battery laptop-style batteries. The auction has a link to this page, which shows how it is done, although in French: http://vincenttrepanier.com/pa...
