Hi,

Don't forget. The E-series works with all the AF lenses as well. It does have the happy feature that it also likes the ancient Non-AI MF lenses as well. :)

Hi, So, what you're really saying is that the E3s is quite a bit more usable than the original E2. ;) Well, that's nothing new in the product development business. Usually the every last variation of a given basic design will have evolved to the point where it's pretty nice. Unfortunately, the thing...

Re: all kodak nikon models to date

[ SCS 2000c 2000-Sep-01 1152x1728 Xena CMY 400-6400 Nikon F5 SCS2000c (typo?) What's this? Again, an unknown model? Looks to me like it was either a development model, or perhaps a 'special', using a newer CMY CFA imager (than was in the 620x). It reads as being essentially what was sold as the DCS...

Hi, As I recall, the Canon-based DCS-EOS-1/3/5 variations of the DCS-460/420/410 came along well after the Nikon-based units were on the market. If this is so, then there will be far fewer of the Canon versions out there vs. the Nikon ones. Having watched the Kodak DCS used market on eBay for severa...

Re: Nikon F4 DIGITAL camera flew on the Space Shuttle in '91

You make one of these and I'd probably want to buy it I believe that! :P I wish I had some hard technical references for the Kodak stuff. I have this idea that one might have the best luck trying to mate the back half (and the bottom part as well, since the Kodak stuff is pretty large) of a DCS 560...

E-series Tiff file plug-in for Photoshop

Hi, As most of us know by now, the venerable TIFF file format is more of a data container than an image file standard. So it is with the TIFF file recorded by the Nikon E-series DSLRs. One needs a fie format plug-in for Photoshop. I can't find this on the various Nikon websites, but Fuji's site stil...

Re: Nikon F4 DIGITAL camera flew on the Space Shuttle in '91

Don't know how hard it would be to convert a DCS 460 to fit (and work) with my F4, but I know for sure I couldn't do it! I think I could eventually pull off sticking some Kodak DCS bits onto an F4 body. This is the sort of thing I've done for many years. It wouldn't be a pretty as a production unit...

Re: 'E4' vs D1

I'm convinced Nikon did the right thing introducing the smaller D1, even with a 1.5 crop factor I have to agree with this thinking. The D1 offered just the right combination of performace and price to take off and sell like the proverbial hotcakes. It was the D1 that defined what a DSLR had to be. ...

Hi, I know that the DCS 400 series were made in both color and monochrome as well as both visible light and infrared variants. The most common will be the VL Color, followed by the VL Mono, then the IR Color with the IR Mono bringing up the rear. Kodak also made the 400 series using Canon EOS-1N bod...

Hi, I suspect that you are correct. The NiMH chemistry requires a variable charge curve, unlike the older NiCd chemistry. That means that one needs some intellegence inside the charger. It also helps if one has a method of reading the cell temperature, which is the best indication that the NiMH cell...

Hi, I first saw a Kodak digital imaging system around 1985. I was with IBM at the time, and we were working on building a fully robotic manufacturing line. Kodak had most of the pieces that would later be used in the original DCS then. We incorporated imaging subsystems as inspection stations at var...

Hi,

Cool! I didn't know that Canon also made one of these things. Of course, I shouldn't be surprised. Nikon and Canon seem to always make the same things as each other. They're true competetors in that respect! :)

Hi,

Just gave the generic card error and would not function until I replace the wrong card with the correct one.

It's not something that causes damage, it just won't work. The firmware in the camera is just too smart for us. ;)

In 20 years, I suspect most will not operate. That is the way of old electronics. Actually, I think that there is a very good chance that the electronics in these things will work for a very long time. Once you get past the early era of transistors, things have a tendency to work for far longer tha...

448 ought to work

Hi, The DCS 400 series bodies ought to work OK with that 448 MB card. What I'm uncertain of is if that 100 MB card would work in the E2N or not. The largest card I tried in my E2 is 128 MB, and it does *not* work. The next largest card in my collection is 80 MB, and that one is OK. There appears to ...
