End of the (Collectors) Line? – Nikon D2X

Post by NikonD1X »

Some collectors of digital cameras decided to collect only the period between 198x and 2000. My limit is 2005, with some exceptions.

Well, the Nikon D2X is from 2004. It fits perfect to my D800! If I need speeds above ISO 1250/1600 – that happens in darker basketball-gyms –, I take the D800. Most of the time in the D800 1,2 crop-mode, offering 5 f/s. If you can’t catch a Dunking with 5 f/s, you won’t catch it with 8 to 10+ f/s! But highspeed helps! So, as long as I can stay at ISO 800/1000 I use the D2X a lot. I love the D2X 7 MP highspeed mode offering 8 f/s to me and making a 1,8/170 mm Lens out of my 1,8/85 mm AF-S FX Nikkor! Even if it is stupid „testing“ a Nikon D2X, please enjoy my report of this really modern classics. And what I think about Canon and Nikon and the current situation with a felt monthly introduction of new cameras.

I'm more or less the same--I bought a D2x new in 2005, sold it in 2010, and bought a used one for $300 a couple of years ago to collect as I missed it--it's an extremely usable camera even now, except in low light, as in my opinion the image quality deteriorates quite a bit above about ISO 400, and by 1600 is pretty much unusable. Mostly it sits next to my various E series, D1, D1x, Kodak/Nikons, etc on the shelf.

I agree that after the D2-series I do not need a newer camera. I know high ISO settings can't be used for serious images, but the camera is strong and works and works. Last week my D2X passed the 350,000 clicks line without any problems. Now and than I even use my old Nikon D1. Still working and if speed and high ISO isn't needed it produces fine images, even for A3 prints. Most magazines and newspapers do not print over 300 dpi. And......have we forgotten available light phototgraphy?

Nico
