Demo D3, D300 serial numbers

Post by NikonWeb »

For future reference, here are the serial numbers of an early D3 and D300 I played with recently:

D3 2000019
D300 4000443

Apparently, both cameras were early "demonstration models".

Also, there's a D3 on dpreview.com with serial 2000067.

Jarle,
Tell us more.
Where were these Demos? Norwegian official distributor?

Was the viewfinder a great improvement as they are claiming?
Is the D3 heavier than the D2x?

Hi Kiu,

Yes, the cameras were showcased by Nikon Norway. I was allowed to take the D3 outside and play with it for a while, using the new 24-70mm f/2.8.

The D3 feels very much like the D2X. A few differences, but nothing major. I felt right at home. Not sure about the weight (you can check the specs online), but it felt the same.

The viewfinder was not as big and bright as I had expected. In fact, I didn't really notice much difference from the D2X. That being said, the D2X viewfinder is already very good.

In my opinion, the major advantages over the D2X:

- Full frame (which may or may not be an advantage)
- High ISO capabilities (low noise ISO 6400 - wow!)
- Improved autofocus

The D300 also looks like a great camera.
