Some NikonWeb.com numbers

Post by NikonWeb »

Looking at site statistics I was amazed to learn that NikonWeb.com has had 117,596 visits from 178 countries/territories over the last year (Nov 25, 2008 - Nov 25, 2009). That's a lot of eyeballs!

Top 5 countries: USA, UK, Germany, Canada and France. Most popular content? The fisheye article (http://www.nikonweb.com/fisheye) followed by my Leica M9 review (http://www.nikonweb.com/m9).

Hi,

Some very nice stats there. I wonder why Firefox over Internet Exploder is surprising, though. I'd have expected that. Or were you thinking that more Mac users would show up using Safari?

Of course, I use Firefox on the Macs we have as well and for the same reason I use it on the WinTel boxes. There is data on the OS used, but can it split the Firefox users into the two OS camps?

I think the Nikon interest would be greater than the Kodak. Are there stats on just where folks are tending to go?

Of course the fisheye is the most popular, that's one heck of an oddball eyeball! :P

Later!

Hi Stan,

I was a little surprised since Internet Explorer is still considered the dominant browser, according to most sources. Here are a few:

http://gs.statcounter.com/ (IE 48%, Firefox 31%)
http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=0 (IE 58%, Firefox 23%)
http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.ph ... 0&month=11 (IE 43%, Firefox 32%)

Regarding Nikon vs Kodak, I'm not sure there's a simple answer. Here are the top 10 articles in 2010:

1. Fisheye lenses
2. Leica M9 - love at first light
3. Kodak DCS 425 Digital Nikonos
4. NASA Nikon F4 Electronic Still Camera
5. Kodak DCS 100
6. Nikon Coolpix 100
7. Nikon S-100 Color Video Camera
8. Nikon S2 Rangefinder
9. SkyView Pro 127 - 1540mm extreme telephoto
10. Kodak DCS 420

Got a lot of traffic in May, with major sites (including CNet and Gizmodo) linking to the digital Nikonos article.

NikonWeb statistics for 2011 (Jan 1 - Dec 31):

180,506 Visits (+ 36.000 compared to 2010)
151,596 Unique Visitors (+ 26.000)
288,529 Pageviews (+ 55.000)

Top 5 countries:
1. United States
2. United Kingdom
3. Canada
4. Germany
5. France

Operating systems:
Windows: 65.02%
Macintosh: 24.91%
iPhone: 3.26%
iPad: 3.10%
Linux: 1.93%

The two most read articles from 2011:

The early days of Nikon's European digital imaging division
Nikon QV-1000C: The history of Nikon's first electronic camera

The first one, written by former Nikon manager Alan Bartlett, caused quite a stir, revealing that Nikon turned down Photoshop in 1988.

The most read article in 2011, regardless of published date, is still the fisheye article.
